What's more, I just changed my password for AT&T/Yahoo, which includes email, and while it's true there is no option to change the password on the iPhone for Yahoo, it didn't need to be changed, apparently, as I could send and receive an e-mail I to myself after the changed password without doing anything on my iPhone account, so deleting and reinstalling is not necessary, at least for me.

That is true, but it has nothing to do with Apple. As explained earlier in this thread had you bothered to read it, the ability to change the password for an account is tied to the provider.

I can happily change the password for my email accounts that come from my ISP at home, my office email, and even my personal website email directly on my iPhone and iPad.

Email accounts from other Providers like Gmail, Yahoo, etc.. Do not allow this. But this is down to the specific provider settings not Apple at all.

The providers give Apple these settings and with them the limitation to change the password.

It seeirrational, inefficient and shortsighted to make me delete my email account to change a password. The email site did not require deletion for a simple password change. None of my financial sites require me to delete my account for a PW change. Amazon and FB do not require deletion of an account for a simple PW change. I'm thankful these programmers are not in charge of house or car repair.

What any other provider, site or application requires is not terribly relevant. I suggested what I still believe is the simplest way to change an email password and update any email provider settings at the same time. You can take my suggestion or not. It makes no difference to me.

I also can't change how anything works. Complaining to people who can't change things strikes me as exceedingly irrational and inefficient.

Submit your feedback to Apple here:

In the time it took you to make your post, you probably could have deleted and readded your email about three times.

It's actually annoying because deleting the account deletes all your gmail calendar, contacts and notes too. Some of the linked information won't return in the same way. So it actually will cause different issues with contacts and calendar syncing.

I've never had that problem. Contacts, calendar all come right back.

There is no option to change account password manually afterwards in mail settings. Only way is to delete the account and add it again with new password.

But rather than deleting the account and adding it again, there is another recourse which i took because i did not want to sync all mail again. Just try sending email through mail app from the account of which you have changed the password. There will a pop up on the screen to enter into settings and re-enter the password. Put new password here and your job is done.

I'm sure that kered33 has figured out how to change the password in the 2 years since the original post by following the instructions provided in the first couple of responses.

And you are wrong that there is no way to change an account password manually. Simply go to Settings/Mail, tap on the account name, then the user ID, and lo and behold, an editable password field appears.

Your solution is an interesting one, but it will only change the incoming password, not the SMTP password.

Yes - totally ridiculous

What is totally ridiculous about a solution that requires that you know nothing but your email address and password? You don't have to know where to find the right place to edit anything, you don't have to remember anything extra. And, if your email provider has updated any server settings, deleting and re-adding updates those as well.

While I know it's (often) possible to update the password, I find deleting and re-adding far simpler and faster. I value efficiency and not having to remember more than I already do.

I've deleted the account and cannot for the life of me get it back into iOS mail. Deleting and re-adding may have worked for you but it hasn't for me and it's ruined my day. I've tried adding it automatically as well as manually to no avail. It seems I'm not the only one with this problem. No more yahoo mail on my phone (which is my main account) and therefore a huge inconvenience to me.

If you can't add an email account to your phone, you have a different problem. I'd suggest starting your own thread as this one is ancient. Yahoo has had a lot of problems lately. Your issue will get more attention in a new thread.

Explain exactly what you did and why. Explain what happens when you try to add your email account back to your phone. Explain what, if any, error messages you're getting. Explain any troubleshooting steps you've already taken.

I'm sure someone will be able to help you get it sorted out.

Best of luck.
